Visual Identity for
the Neo-Psychedelic music Act Svenska Rymdprogrammet
For Svenska Rymdprogrammet, my role as a graphic designer was to craft a visual identity that reflected the band's neo-psychedelic sound and the rich tradition of 1960s psychedelic culture. Drawing inspiration from iconic San Francisco poster art and artists like Alton Kelley, Victor Moscoso, and Rick Griffin, I developed a flexible and multi-layered design language that could adapt to various media while maintaining a consistent sense of recognition.

Svenska Rymdprogrammet is a neo-psychedelic music act inspired by the vibrant music scene of the late 1960s, particularly the countercultural movement that emerged in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district. Drawing influence from iconic bands such as Grateful Dead, Country Joe and the Fish, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Big Brother and the Holding Company, the act blends experimental sounds, extended jams, and cosmic lyrics. Their music evokes the spirit of freedom and exploration characteristic of the psychedelic era, while infusing a modern twist that captures the timeless essence of late-60s psychedelic rock.

As the graphic designer for Svenska Rymdprogrammet, my mission was to develop a visual identity that reflected both the band's music and the psychedelic tradition they are part of. The graphic expression needed to be flexible and multi-layered, much like the eclectic nature of psychedelic music itself. It had to be adaptable, yet maintain a sense of cohesion and recognition across different formats.
For inspiration, I delved deeply into contemporary psychedelic poster art from the 1960s, particularly the vibrant designs emerging from San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury scene. I drew heavily from graphic artists like Alton Kelley, Victor Moscoso, Rick Griffin, Wes Wilson, and Stanley Mouse—mastering the core principles of their psychedelic visual language but updating it with a modern twist to match the band's unique sound and ethos.
The majority of my work focused on producing dynamic promotional materials for social media platforms and Spotify, alongside designing logos, posters, and cover art for a special vinyl single release. The creative process involved a lot of research and exploration online to gather inspiration and ensure the visual direction stayed rooted in the timeless psychedelic aesthetic while being fresh and contemporary.
